Mrs. Denning’s Weekly Newsletter 09/25/2016
General Information
· We have an in school field on September 28th, 2016 at a cost of $7.50 per child. If you have not paid the required fee for this field trip please do so by Wednesday, September 27,2016.
· If you would like for your son/daughter to participate in Special Olympics Basketball Skills on December. 1, 2016 @ Green Road Community Center you will need to have completed the required paperwork that was sent home with your child some weeks ago. If you did not receive or have lost the papers please let us know. All physicals need to be completed by a physician and returned to me by September 30, 2016 so that I can forward them to the appropriate person. If you are not able to complete the physical form, but would like for your son/daughter to go on the field trip anyway you will need to complete the field trip permission form.
Weekly Objectives
Language: Students will emphasize on words that all start with the letter “Gg”.
· Students will distinguish initial, medial and final sounds in a spoken word.
· Students will decode words by using common spelling patterns.
· Students will know and apply grade level phonics and word analysis skills in decoding words.
· Students will be able to produce the sounds of the short and long vowels in isolation.
Reading: Students will retell stories including key details and demonstrate an understanding of their central message or lesson.
· Students will use illustrations and details in a text to describe its characters.
· Identify the main topic and retell key details of a text.
· Ask and answer questions to help determine or clarify the meaning of the word and phrases in a text.
Writing: Students will demonstrate command of the conventions of Standard English capitalization, punctuation, spelling when writing.
Science: (1) Understand the physical properties of Earth materials that make them useful in different ways.

- Given a request by the teacher the students will draw the correct number of objects requested by the teacher.
- Given a request by the teacher, the students will orally count to 50 in sequential order.
- Understand that the two digits of a two-digit number represent amounts of tens and ones. Understand the following: 10 can be thought of as a bundle of tens called a “ten.”, the numbers from 11 to 19 are composed of a ten and one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, or nine ones, and the numbers 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90 refer to one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, or nine tens and ones.
Science: (1) Understand the physical properties of Earth materials that make them useful in different ways.
- Summarize the physical properties of Earth materials, including rocks, minerals, soils, and water that make them useful in different ways.
- Compare the properties of soil samples from different places relating to their capacity to retain water, nourish, and support the growth of certain plants.
